Skitzo and Wynleigh have reported in. Skitzo is closer to Durban but further offshore. From her last communication we have learned that she has shredded her mainsail in gusts reported to be in the region of 60kts. They crew are well and they are proceeding under headsail.
Wynleigh is closer inshore and has approx 45 nm to go.
This could be a close race as Wyleigh have a full suit of sails and should be in flatter water.
The wind is forcasted to moderate during the course of this pm. |

The 19th annual Inhaca Island to Richard’s Bay Race, hosted by Zululand Yacht Club, was sailed over the Easter Weekend.
The Race Briefing, held in Lucas' Restaurant on Inhaca Island, was a grand affair, with entertainment provided by a local group of marimba players, drummers, and a dancing display by local boys and girls. This was followed by a Seafood Feast for which Lucas' is noted.
The seven monohulls and the cat entered in the PHRF cruising class started the race off the Inhaca Lighthouse at 14h00 on Thursday 9th April in very light conditions. This was soon to change as the south westerly winds set in. |

Report by Sean Fennessy
Durban’s Vetch’s Pier beach was a hive of colourful activity during the Point Yacht Club’s Microtronix Easter Regatta from 10-13 April. This great sailing venue saw a mixed fleet of 60 boats take to the water, with the majority of boats (42) comprising Hobie 16 catamarans whose national championships formed the highlight of the event. Also participating were the Dart 18s sailing their KZN provincial champs, plus some Halcats, Lasers and Flying Fifteens making up the Open class. Competitors came from all over the country, with great support in the Hobie and Dart classes from the Gauteng region. The Western Cape and Eastern Cape were also represented, with sailors from Fish Hoek, Plettenberg Bay and East London making the long haul to catch some of Durban’s autumn weather, and even a couple of Botswanan sailors came to taste the salt. |

The Flying fifteen class sailed the first two days of the PYC Easter Regatta offshore and devoted the Sunday and Monday to their respective families and to Easter egg hunts. 5 Fifteens mustered off A shed on Good FRIDAY whilst a ship sailed, then collectively exited the harbour flying spinnakers in a 15-20 knot S-W'ly breeze. The wind steadily built to approx 25 knots with some of the catamarans, which were sailing their nationals, experiencing difficulties in the worsening conditions. The rescue fleet were becoming increasingly busy and in light of this the Race Officer abandoned racing for the day. The fifteens still managed to enjoy some exciting sailing while waiting to get the all clear to enter the harbour. |

It's 2009 - bringing new challenges and new ideas!
This year there are some exciting changes to the Show format, the most important being the venue - the 2009 Show will be held at one venue and one venue only - the Durban Marina!
We appreciate that many exhibitors have been requesting this for some time, so now it's happening! We've been offered vastly-extended mooring space by the Durban Marina, and the eThekwini Municipality have allowed us the use of a portion of the tarred parking area leading up to the Cafe Fish for outside stands. T
he most important aspect of this is that every visitor will see every stand, and every boat on the moorings. Extra parking areas are being organised, so 2009 could be the best Show ever, especially as it is the only event happening over this time on the Durban July holiday calendar, not clashing with the Air Show. |

From the SkitZofrenetic Zkipper
The crew of Team Skitzo have requested additional training and so we are putting together a series of training evenings which will run on Wednesday evenings.
The first session on Wednesday 1 April was a success with about 25 sailors who benefited from the sessions given by Greg de Beyer (starting procedures) and Craig Millar (sail setting).
The next session will be held on Wednesday 15 April, after Inhaca. The two, half hour sessions will be, tacking up the beat and spinnaker handling. The speakers will be confirmed at a later stage.
Anyone who would like to join Team Skitzo for these evenings is most welcome. |
